About Papo d’Anjo
About the Founder | Letter from the Founder | About the Collection | What is a Papo d'Anjo
In Lisbon, where the back alleys are stilled filled with small workshops with artisans busy at their sewing machines, Papo d’Anjo continues to make children’s clothing the old fashioned way. The time-consuming nature of producing our designs, where special attention is given to every detail, ensures that our end product is one of unparalleled quality and workmanship.
It all began fourteen years ago when Catherine Monterio de Barros, the founder of Papo d’Anjo, was living in Portugal with her husband and their two small children. Catherine realized that there was a huge opportunity in the United States to fill the gap in the children’s market where little choice existed for mothers in search of beautifully made European-style clothing. It is Catherine’s incredible taste and vision and her natural talent for selecting fabrics and designing children’s clothing that has made Papo d’Anjo a favorite among discerning mothers and the great success that it is today.
Papo d'Anjo's headquarters are located in the heart of Lisbon, Portugal in the capital city's historic district known as the Chiado. All design and production planning takes place there, on the top floor of an 18th century building overlooking the Tagus river and six of Lisbon's seven hills.
What began primarily as a Trunk Show business has now developed into a much larger enterprise with many other points of distribution including Trunk Shows, Papo d’Anjo stores in Lisbon and Madrid, in-store boutiques in department stores in Europe, our catalog and website as well as distribution through select children’s boutiques and specialty stores throughout the United States and Europe. With this continued growth and prosperity, Papo d’Anjo remains dedicated to maintaining the same level of excellence and attention to detail, the same quality workmanship, innovative design and truly remarkable customer service that is increasingly rare in today's marketplace.

Catherine Monteiro de Barros is now a mother of four currently living in England, ninety miles from London in the heart of the Cotswolds. She grew up in Wisconsin, the daughter of an American father and a Norwegian mother. After graduating from Phillips Academy, Andover in 1982, Catherine received a BS from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service in 1986 and an MA in International Relations at Johns Hopkins University in 1988. She worked as Associate Producer of World Report at CNN in Atlanta before marrying and moving to Portugal with her husband in 1991. Catherine founded Papo d’Anjo in 1994 (see About Papo d’Anjo) and remained in Portugal until March of 2002 when she and her family moved to Gloucestershire, England.
Today Catherine travels between England and Portugal monthly to oversee all aspects of the business. While she is the company's sole designer and chief decision maker, she relies upon very dedicated, talented and loyal employees in Portugal and in the United States without whom Papo d’Anjo would not be what it is today.

Letter from the founder about the Spring/Summer 2008 Collection
There are few places I have come to know where the light is more beautiful than in Portugal. This new collection is a celebration of this magnificent light and the season ahead. Pale and bright colors, and crisp and soft fabrics combine to remind us of summer and warmer days ahead.
Papo d'Anjo's dedication to exceptional quality, beautiful color, wonderful fabrics and elegant simplicity are the essence of this collection. I hope that you will enjoy what you find here as much as I have enjoyed creating it.
Sincerely,

Catherine Monteiro de Barros
About the Product
Papo d’Anjo designs and produces beautifully tailored and exceptionally well made clothing and accessories for children. Continuing in the tradition of Europe’s finest manufacturers of high-end clothing, Papo d’Anjo strives to maintain a level of excellence and attention to detail that is increasingly rare in today's marketplace.
We manufacture the vast majority of our clothing in Portugal, where our production team carefully supervises the product's development from start to finish. We have made the strategic decision to limit non-Portuguese production to only those items that we can reliably count on to meet our high quality standards. Our collection is principally made of 100% cotton with fabrics sourced from the finest mills in France, Italy, Spain, Portugal and England.
Papo d’Anjo appeals to discerning mothers who appreciate our dedication to quality, classic European style, exquisite details and low profile elegance.

What is a Papo d’Anjo
Papo d’Anjo’s literal translation is tummy of an angel, the name given to a very special little cake whose recipe dates back to the 13th century.
In Portugal, Papos-de-Anjos are known as Doces Conventuais, or sweets from the convent. Over the centuries, to save their convents from ruin, Catholic Nuns took to the kitchens and busied themselves by making sweets and selling them. Today these delicious little cakes can be found in pastry shops throughout the country.

10 egg yolks
INGREDIENTS FOR THE SAUCE
1 cup water
2 cups sugar
Zest from one entire lemon
and one entire orange
Beat at high speed with an electric mixer the two eggs and all the yolks until they are light and airy.
Butter a muffin or cupcake pan and fill each depression half

Remove muffin pan from the oven and take each cake out and place on
